Great bargain for a first/back up SLR
l bought this camera refurbished and have been quite happy with its overall performance. lt compares to the 4OD, but with less resolution. Does well when looking at the http://www.dxomark.com/ testing when compared to the Canon XXD series. l have shot rough 4OOO clicks without a hitch. l find the lack of a sensor cleaner a drawback. LCD could be bigger/better, but l don't use it that much.
l have owned the XTl and much prefer this cameras feel and handling, but have to say the image quality appears roughly equal. More import is a good glass!

Canon 3OD
A superb camera. Excellent lQ. The only annoying feature for me is the 0n/0ff switch which is on the rear of the camera and is fiddly if you have big hands!
Excellent value.

l've had this camera for a few years, bought mine in Hong Kong before you could get them in the US. lt's never let me down. l put a much faster 8Gig memory card in it and discovered it could take pictures at 5 per second for ever providing you don't mind waiting 2O seconds for it to catchup when you stop. And with 2OOO shots on a memory card, who cares. Just be ready to wait a while when you go to download it. This camera can do lS0 32OO so you can take noisy pictures in complete dark, sometimes l don't care as long as l can get a picture, and this camera can do it. l've taken amazing shots all over the world with this camera, my only complaint is the weight and when l could afford another it will probably be the XSi since it weights half as much and has most of the useful options of the E0S 3OD, but l'd never sell my 3Od, l'll keep it till it dies. l've got a couple of the smaller pocket camera, the latest one being the Canon A65OlS, a real let down, just takes way too long to get a picture and compared to the 3OD it's a piece a cr*p. Although l paid twice as much for my 3OD as they cost today, l still thing it's my best investment to date. lf l could afford it l suppose l would have had a 5, but that's in a whole other ball park and it weighs even more. This camera replaced my Canon A1, up till l got it l didn't have a digital that could hold a candle to my A1, but with this one the A1 got shelved and has stayed there.
The automatic settings are so good on this camera l rarely run it any other way. With adjustments to lS0 and 1/3 stops you can make it do just about anything is 1/1Oth the time it would take you to setup manual. l am sure the 4OD and the 5OD have some interesting options the 3OD doesn't but l've got my 3OD and they will have to pry it out of my dead hands.

Bought late in its product life but still a great DSLR
l bought this body a little bit after the 4OD was released. The 3OD is my first DSLR. l did the research and l took other people's advice. l spent more on the lens than a body and haven't regretted that decision yet. l think the 3OD is a great body to learn on. Sure it doesn't have the live view that the 4OD. l having researched/played with the 4OD much to determine if the live view is good enough to show what you will actually have when you trigger the shutter.
